History

Friedens United Church of Christ has a long history in the Seward community. It was organized as Friedens Evangelical Church by German immigrants on September 22, 1878. Rev. Christian Bek was the first pastor. Friedens is unique that, aside from congregations that formed from church mergers, it is the only church that worshiped in the same location from its founding. The church sanctuary was built in 1888.
